I have now bought a 1.7 Puma engine and I am looking at the driver’s side engine mount, which I know is different to my 1.4
To help me modify my mount could owners of J15s with a 1.7 show me how their mount is?
I believe the bar is cranked under the engine mount with a longer mounting angle, than mine has.
I have spoken To Jeremy and he hasn’t made a jig for it, so can’t supply one.
Pictures, sketches, dimensions, anything would be welcome
Cheers
I am happy to help, see in the first instance:

The engine mounts as designed I could not live with. If you tune the Sigma it can magnify a resonance in the Sigma design at 2500 rpm that will
dislodge your teeth when mounted in the J15. I have therefore modified the engine mounts near and offside as per my blog. The drivers side of the
engine (offside) is under hung on to the offside engine mount that was supplied by Jeremy. I over drilled the holes in that mount and made up a
sandwich of hard rubber and steel such that even the holes had rubber (rubber pipe). There is a diagram on my blog. I did the same modification with
the nearside mounts. I believe Jeremy can supply, at extra cost, alternative mounts. I could fit the alternatives but the mod works just fine. I
doubt you can only do one side as that will put strain on the unmodified side.
I thought the offside mount is part of the head alloy casting but looking at the picture I am having second thoughts. See
Offside mount
Ah, thanks. I think as I am using a standard engine+ecu setup, hopefully there wont be much difference in vibrations to my 1.4
The photo of the standard mount is what i imagined, so many thanks for that. I will have to see how I can modify mine similar.
Many thanks
Ah!!!!! I remember now I had to take a lump out of it. It was not complicated just took a corner off and beefed up the metal underneath to regain strength with a web. I had a look for some pictures but have not found them yet. I will post them when and if I find them.
I'm not sure when JP channged, but My chassis came with different rubber mounts. I will try and get some pics tonight.
If it were me, while you are changing engine also consider dropping it down so the gearbox sits in ths slot on the bottom of the chassis...again, wil
try and get some pics tonight.
If you look at the 3rd Feb 2013 post on my blog, you can see the stlye of mounts my car came with...I understand this was to try to stop the now well
known vibration issue.
Hi
I have spent so long building the car that i am going to put the rubber insert between my teeth for now !!!!
I remember Jeremy saying that uprated cams make it especially bad ?
