Aeon GT3 coupe

What do you generally think of the Aeon GT3 coupe (was 4203)?
http://www.aeonsportscars.com/Showroom/GT3Coupe.asp

Do you think it could make a reasonable daily driver? Does it have any kind of top? Is the car any good?

Cheers,

Alex

The 420 "cubed" was in a kit car review and I really fancied it for my next project. Sure it had a hard top at the time though and it seemed to look a bit better than the GT3. I don't think those side on shots do it justice.

Still like though and will be on my short list for 2007.

The GT range comes in two styles - the Spider and Coupe. The GT2 has two seats (my preference) and GT3 has ..... well you can guess can't you

The Spider has minimalist doors which compliment the Aeroscreen nicely. The Coupe has gull wing doors and a full height screen.
The coupe is a very suitable daily driver in my opinion as it offers good weather protection.

Both models will take a wide range of engines - mine has a V6 Duratec but other popular choices are 4 pot Duratecs and the Audi turbo lump.

Thank you guys.

So are you saying that the GT3 COUPE is not the same 4203 on a new name? Has it changed at all then?

There's a gallery here:
http://www.aeonsportscars.com/Gallery/Default.asp
There, they call the car coupe, and it has 4203 stickers.

As for the coupe / spider versions, I think I've seen a pic of the spider with its doors opened Lambo style (as oposed to conventional or gull wing). The coupe certainly has Lambo style doors not gull wings.

Hey yes, here it is:
http://www.pistonheads.com/pics/news/12097/aeon4-L.jpg
There's a full article on the Spider by Pistonheads, which was posted here not long ago, it's here:
http://www.pistonheads.com/doc.asp?c=112&i=12097
Locostbuilders thread here:
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=32653

So the coupe has a top, great! I've not seen any pics with full top or full enclosure. I wonder if the top is all transparent, here in Spain that might be a show stopper for daily use, it rains fire during summer here So you would need a cap + sun protection for your skin! Plus temp inside would raise to ridiculous levels (winter pasture effect). Not too convenient for daily use..

Cheers,

Alex

PS: I LOVE the car. Congratulations Raz!

Raz,

I've just seen your pic here:
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?action=attachment&tid=32192&pid=266228

Looks like a non transparent top! Much different from the pics shown in the gallery and all of the website, where the coupe top consists of a central pillar along the car only. Can you give any details or pics?

Cheers,

Alex

Hi Alex,

The GT3 and 4203 are in fact the same car - originally the car was called the 4203 and the figures represented:

4(No of cylinders) 2(size of engine) 3(Number of seats)

When the range of engines was explored it was then decided that the combination of seats/cylinders/engine size was going to get confusing so the name was revamped to:

To add to the confusion I have built a hybrid which is something like the Spider but with the Coupe roof and full doors (also a redesigned front but that's another story ) The Coupe's doors are in fact still at the prototype stage and I with any luck I should be fitting them later this week. They will probably be of the 'beetle wing' design, but this hasn't been finalised yet. One thing is for sure though - they will completely seal the cabin and therefore give total weather protection. Aircon or at least ventilation will be a definite requirement in the warmer countries - mind you, the Global Warming effect seems to be making the UK's summers unbearably hot in non-aircon cars lately!

Here is a sneak preview of my revamped rear section

As you can see, it now has a rear window and air intakes.

That's very different from the one in the website pics.. looking good!

Hay Raz man - How did the rear wing come out?

Cheers

RazMan - 22/11/05 at 11:29 AM

Hi Fred

In the end I went for a Suburu jobbie that almost has the right shape with minimal modification.
Here is a pic when I was trial-fitting it.

It also has the benefit of having a third brake light built in

Yes, it does suit - looking good!

The rear wing looks very good actually!

You might want to re-consider the positioning of the NACA ducts (air-intakes)...

...if you want them to 'intake' any air...

A valid point and I have to admit that they are not in an ideal position. I was forced to make a compromise due to the position of the twin fillers which couldn't move (not fitted in the pic). They should still perform reasonably well at normal road speeds but racing will probably show up any weakness.

I've been reading a report from a guy who took a test drive:
http://www.tribbeck.com/cars/nextkit/testdrive/

He seems to think that the "Blaze" (ex Pell Genesis) and the Aeon have very similar chassis. I'm unsure about this because I thought that basically they were different cars.

I was wondering about the origin of the Aeon car design and Aeon as a company. Any of you know if the guy who designed the Genesis chassis is now working for / with Aeon Sportscars? Also, who designed the Aeon chassis?

RazMan - 29/11/05 at 10:14 AM

The Aeon GT and Blaze both share the same chassis with minimal modification. I am fairly sure that Aeon bought the Pell Genesis earlier this year and converted the body to fit the GT chassis so they can now offer two models (plus variants)

As far as I know, the Aeon Chassis was designed by John @ Aeon (but I am not certain)

Alez - 29/11/05 at 01:28 PM

So Aeon bought the car to use the bodywork not the chassis, and even that with mods to fit a chassis they already had? And the original Genesis chassis is not being used anymore? Did I understand right?

It seems a bit strange to me that the Blaze and GT almost share the same chassis. Is it me or the GT looks wider by a lot?

Interesting..

RazMan - 5/12/05 at 09:51 PM

Alex, I had a word with John today and he clarified the situation.

The GT and Blaze chassis are quite different from each other although they share the same design principles. The front and rear suspension setups are (more or less) the same but the Blaze has a larger engine bay and shorter wheelbase (-110mm) The GT appears to be a larger, wider car but this is mainly due to the bigger cabin (and therefore smaller engine bay) - the overall dimensions are not much different.

Alez - 21/12/05 at 02:16 PM

Interesting, thank you!

Looking good. I fitted gull wing doors to my MEV TREK 4x4 and the SVA man was hard to please. It made me wonder if I should leave the doors off next time I go for a MAC, keep up the good work, hard though ain't it! Kind regards Stig Mills
