In my pursuit of the adequately cooled v8 in a 7 I have done many things but the following is the bizzarest yet.

I had a plan to divert all the hot air from the radiator out of the top of the nose. I had the fans on the front blowing and had about an inch of room to board up and seal the area behind the rad leaving a space at the top to channel hot air out passing over the oil cooler at a now cunning 45 degrees.

Now I thought I need some fans on the oil rad as all it will get now is hot air off of the rad. I thought about some standard fans but none are small enough. Unless you use a computer case fan. 12v v low amps and v inexpensive (£5).

All installed and I will let you know what the medium long term experience is, but the computer fans are very very good at shifting air.

Next stop water wetter.

Just thought of another scource of small 12V fans....

Aren't low voltage bathroom extract fans 12V now, they can easily be ducted as well!.

Try the RS catalogue or farnell or even maplin they all have quite a range of different 12v fans. If you cant get what your looking for u2u me as i own an electronics repair company and we have loads lying around. Il stick them in the post for you.

Any common equipment type fan is highly unlikely to shift enough air to make a real difference imo.

If they don't work, how about a "Bilge Blower" fan from a boat, as used to make dubious electric superchargers...

I don't think the computer fans will work - they just won't move enough air volume to be effective. The bilge-blower fans for boats do, in fact, blow a LOT of air, and might be useable. You still need to duct the air coming through the rad, though, so that NONE of the air can spill around it, and ALL of it goes through the rad, in order to get the cooling effectiveness from the rad. Ideally, the fan should be as LARGE as possible so as to cool right to the edges of the rad when the car is not moving.... a tiny fan will only cool a tiny area of the rad

Thats bilge fan moves 145 cfm of air, a good 12cm computer fan, such as a delta focussed flow will move 190 cfm

zetec7 - the bilge blower looks a good option - reasonably good flow and waterproof - always handy! I'd look at fitting two of these which would give a combined airflow of around 290 cfm which isn't as high as the 400cfm from most 7" fans but probably as much as I can hope for given the total lack of space!

i think the pc ventilators are fine,

you only have 2 problems...

above a certain drive speed, the fan will over run...you are pushing the air true it instead of pulling it true...

also water won't like the fan...

if i was you i would just make some special ductings out of chicken fens??
(thin wires wich are woven to be sheet)
then with a special paper and clue mix, you should be able to make a nice duct...

then you have fress air wich is filled by driveing speed!! a pc fan will reach destroy rpm's when driveing 50mph..

only with compressed air only its like bearing a flying arround the ears...

PC fans produce silly power when turned. I would personally suggest looking at model aircraft and somehow making sure your not returning power through anything tempermental
