Wishbones
racer56 - 25/5/04 at 10:11 PM

OK, so I'm sure some people will tell me this is in the wrong section, but never mind.
We have discovered a slight problem with our lower wishbones, and in correcting it seem to have rendered said bones useless. DOH. Unfortunately the steel we got (19mm CDS) is no longer available and we are struggling to get some without minimum order and all that stuff. I am supposed to be ready for Cadwell, but this could really test our ability to get there.
So, does anybody have any reliable contacts who can supply me with some 19mm 16 gauge CDS so that we can fabricate another set of lower bones. Would appreciate any help urgently!
Cheers
Phil

Phil
Try Merlin Motorsport:
01249 782101
or here
They're very good and stock most things, incl steel tubing of various sorts.

Other option is to buy some wishbones from MK or Luego or Stuart Taylor - not what you want by the sound of it, but it'd get you to Cadwell.
Good Luck

MK will sell you the steel to make your own wishbones, I bought some from them.

Thanks guys. We actually found some from a hydraulics co.
Since most places seem to have minimum orders, has anybody hooked up with others who are building and bought as a group? Seems like a cheap way to get some as the cost is dependant on volume from a lot of these companies.

Most racers use factory built chassis and wishbones, trailling arms etc so no need.

Yeah. And we thought of that too. But the 1st car that we build was home made chassis, and it just seemed like the right way to go (although we didn't go home made, we got Arrow Engineering to make it - not the ex F1 team....!) We used MK wishbones on the 1st car and they were OK, although a few of the other guys had a few break. We did buy some GTS ones (which will be on eBay soon). They look good, and seem to be well made, but for some reason that I haven't managed to get to the bottom of didn't work with our chassis (lower 'bone seemed too narrow resulting in fouling with the upright).
Anyway, we decided to make our own and bar one mishap are pretty pleased with them - its just that correcting the mishap is running us close to the wire!
Ah well, if we were any more organsied we'd be Des and Al, wouldn't we!!!!!
See you all at Cadwell
