Toyota engine age problem
Neil P - 15/1/09 at 09:09 AM

I need to put a date on my engine for SVA. I have contacted Toyota GB as recommended by Russbost in another post. Problem is that they have no record of the engine. They suggested it may be an import.

Any thoughts on where to go next, please?

Is it 4age? If so, contact Raw to see what they do these days. I'm sure I read somewhere that they have been given exemption on the basis they are all pre 92 cos they stopped making them. May be different is 20v.

Neil, do you have a chassis no. it came from? or a reg no.?
Where is the engine no., is it on the exhaust side of the block half hidden by the starter motor, or on the opposite side of the block under the alternator.
what engine no. have you got? Is it possible you're a letter or digit short?
As well as the one I've just had SVA'd, I have 2 other AGE engines here I can make comparisons with.

I don't have the Chassis or registration numbers, unfortunately. The engine number is just above the starter motor on the nearside. I have it as 4A 1225224. it's a 16V engine.

Not sure about the exemption, I think Russ fell foul of that quite recently (last few weeks)

Raw Engineering have a letter from Toyota that covers this. I'm sure they'd be happy to send you one.

I have a 1986 engine no. 0790054 & a '88 (Jan) engine no. 1148766 so would guess your engine is late '88 or '89.
The SVA manual says (if no V5) "a letter from the manufacturer confirming date of manufacture or production period"
I believe production of the 16V engine finished in 1990 (might have been a bit later on the Corolla?) so if Raw have a letter confirming no engines manufactured after 1990/91 would have thought that should be fine - for safetys sake might be worth ringing Toyota again & asking for a letter direct from them to you to confirm last production date of the 16V engine.

I'll give them another ring if that will suffice.

Cheers
