Hi everybody
Just been reading through a 4x4 mag and there is an article in there about using a disco chassis and fitting new bodywork.
Now this kit involves cutting the chassis but the only bits being cut are infront of the front wheels and behind the rear wheels so the chassis
between the wheels is unchanged.
Now i think it could be fun to have one of there road legal.
Who would think i would need to IVA it or not?
Of course it would have full lights etc
I was thinking as the disco has a seperate chassis and it would just be changing the bodywork (and removing some 'rusty' bits of the
chassis) it would not need an IVA

if you alter the chassis in any way apart from replacing like for like you need an sva......

i've wondered similar things myself with the rallying.seen numerous rwd fiesta's,micra's and the like,that resemble nothing of the car they're meant to be!bit of a grey area i think,alot seems to depend how friendly your mot tester is i think.when does a modified car become a different one all together.just look at red victor,the awesome street legal vauxhal victor!i'd be interested in any black and white guidelines as i have another project brewing!a traffic police friend of mine doesn't know.
THESE dont require IVA, just an MOT.
if the bits which need cutting off 'fell off due to rust' and are not structural it will pass an MOT.

i spent a year building this v8 thing.....
but
because i cut off the rear crossmember and used a bit of box it needed an sva (iva)......i didnt find out untill after the mot when a mate of mine who
is a traffic cop informed me if i had a accident my insurance would be voidand i would be in poo poo......

Problem solved.
wheel base is different to a 90.....
if you build a 100 inch defender from a range rover you still need to sva as you move the outriggers...no easy way round it...
