Tax when changing engine

Here's an interesting question....

If i have a car, lets say it's an old 1300 engined car, so on the <1549cc tax band, and i've just paid the year's tax.
I have just decided to change the engine which took me a month and i've just changed the V5.

What happens to the tax, do you basically enjoy a years driving on essentially a lower price than it should be?

You shouldn't do, but the chances are they wouldn't know. I'm unsure if they send you any reminder for such a thing.

Won't that make your insurance invalid in the event of a claim? With all the possible hassle that entails.....

well you have to tell the insurance company before taking it on the road but I'd never bother with road tax. Send in the log book before the next tax renewal or MOT date so they are right

If you have changed your V5 to the new engine, the DVLA should automatically request the extra tax fees due.

ENJOY and TAX in the same sentence, no f'in way!

As said, legal duty to inform DVLA and insurers, then let them take due action

I'm pretty sure of the DVLAs answer if you did the converse - ie. you took the V8 out, put the 1300 in, changed your logbook the tax refund would be by return of post.......NOT!
