Log book requirements for kit car

HI all - a friend of mine is building a car using parts from different cars and scrapyards etc., he has no log book / V5 off any car does he need a log book or can he just have a Q plate without? Is there any problems with registration of the kit car afterwards? Jacko

If you're happy enough to have a Q plate (or know that you can't avoid one) then all you need is receipts for all the major components. The DVLA man will want some evidence that the parts haven't been lifted from stolen vehicles. I kept receipts for just about everything, and presented the DVLA man with a heap about 50mm thick! (I'm not joking).

Mind you, asking for a receipt in some of my local scrappies is likely to cause a stir...

rgds,

David

As with all other things to do with registering, it will probably vary from local office to local office, but I didn't need receipts for the parts on my car, I had a V5 and receipts for the steel, but other than that, nothing, not even for the engine or gearbox, but I still got an age related plate.
