Do any of you knowledgeable types know, if it is a SVA requirement to have the underside of the scuttle (the bit above yer legs!) to be paneled in.

Or is it sufficient to have the pedal mechanisms boxed in on engine side of the scuttle to form a bulk head to separate the engine compartment from the rest of the car?

no need for either... Tiger Avon has open pedal box in engine compartment and causes no probs at SVA..... (will be boxing mine in though for my own peace of mind)

Not sure if there is a specific rule in the SVA book, but it makes it a lot easier if you put a panel there because there is no danger of wiring, etc. potentially coming loose and hanging down below the bottom of the dash where it could be a fail.

I made a template from cardboard to rest on the return of the bottom of the dash and on top of the footwell/bulkhead cross-tubes, then cut out the shape from a piece of plastic bath panel. Probably best to use some fairly flexible board so you can pop it into place

If you don't panel in, everything is subject to the 2.5mm rule

I read the regulations as any object above the lower edge of the dash and behind it is exempt from examination.
However to be on the safe side I think it's a good idea to panel the scuttle.

there is not a requirement that it has to be, well my super 6 is not,

however you should put padding on the front rail just above your knees, use a bit of pipe lagging covered with a bit of vinyl and it should be secure so screw it into place and not tape it.
