Ho hum.
Got my tax reminder yesterday - "appropriate MOT certificate" in the bottom requirements bit.
Spoke to the DVLA last night, which was a total waste of time, as "they're only a skeleton staff in the evening, and can't change
anything".
Spoke to them today, to get the answer "it's only saying that they should check if a MOT certificate is required" - Yeh, right. Anyway,
I followed her advice, and went into a central London PO on the off-chance (with my V5 to hand, to prove the vehicle's age). The bod behind the
counter said "where's the MOT certificate?". I explained that I'd spoken to the DVLA, who'd told me that an MOT wasn't
required. "OK" he said, and gave me the tax disc!
I'm now convinced that they're all clueless!
Anyone know who to write to in the DVLA? I'm in the mood for a good, drawn-out rant!
But at least I'm sorted for another year...
David
Give em a call. That way youre gauranteed to get somebody to rant at.
Its good news that the PO guy jut accepted your word. Fingers crossed for everybody else.

Found this on the 'direct-gov' site

This papagraph seems to cover what we do
if a vehicle is registered with no prior use on the road, the MOT will be required three years after the date of registration. For example, a vehicle
registered "from new" on 25 April 2000 will require its MOT no later than 25 April 2003
The only special case it mentions is if the vehicle is used as a taxi.
Tax online - then you don't need the MOT certificate.
The 'system' seems to think that because the cars under 3 years old it won't need an MOT certificate and allows you to buy tax hassle
free.
Only slight pain is having to pay an extra £2.50 for using a CREDIT card.
Tried that last night - it couldn't find my insurance details.

I taxed my 10year old Bongo (stop sniggering) last month and the PO bod said it she didn't need the MOT. She said the car was registered 6 months ago (when I imported it) so would not need an MOT for another two and a half years!
