After enquiring about when my inspection would be I've just been told by my local DVLA office that they can't even give me an approximate
date.
They said it could be next week or in 2 months.
I explained that my insurers will want to see a reg number 14 days after insuring the car on a chassis number and that my insurance will start the day
before my SVA on the 5th of October.
Her advice was don't bother insuring the car until I have had the inspection!
I carefully pointed out that driving to the SVA without insurance was illegal.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so how did you get round it?
Thanks
Stu
You can insure the car on a chassis number. Mine didn't ask for the reg. no. and I insured mine 3 months before the SVA.
The DVLA didn't want to see my car when I registered it, just turned up with all the docs and it took half hour to get a plate.
Depends on the insurer/broker, or even on the person you speak to. I insured mine before SVA, then had to cancel and rearrange the SVA, Adrian Flux
refused point blank to extend a 30 day cover on the basis of a chassis number, though apparently other people have been able to extend via
AF...
Having said that, you could grovel and plead with your insurer/broker. Good luck - it will be worth it in the end.

i think the person you talked to at DVLA needs to get intimate with their partner for the evening and have a good seeing to!
My inspection was done at home. Others have trailored car to local office soon after SVA. Some have even had DVLA turn up at the SVA. The only problem
you can face is if you have an appt and then the Police canll in with an urgent job for them to inspect. Other than that after SVA call them again and
hopefully you will get more helpful reply. If they have a smile on their face as well you will know why!!

I'm insured with Footman James ! Had no problems.
Get the insurance and wait and see what happens. if after 14 days they want a reg surely you can cancel the policy and take it out again after u get your reg??

Aberden DVLA visit the VOSA station during the test so hopefully that should speed things along,
Footman James insured the vehicle on the chassis number and had no metion of requiring a number within a set time period.
DVLA have said the number will be isuued a max of 30days aftr the application, (test day).
I should mention the DVLA have already inspected the car at home for a chassis number to be issued, dont know why it has to be inspected again.
I insured mine through Adrian Flux, and also "ran out of time", but it was over Christmas, and I managed to extend by a fortnight without
any probs!
