I just got back from Chelmsford DVLA who tell me there is a 'bit of a backlog' due to staff sickness. This means that any applications for
home vehicle inspections will take between 6 - 8 weeks !!
Looks like I will have to drive the car down there after all then.
Bit of a bitch matye. Can u not take it somewhere else??
Where was your car sva'd mate? I heard theyd shut the testing station down at chelmsford, is the sva bit still going??

Nope Chelmsford has closed down for a refit - I went to Gillingham
thats good it will stop you taking out that loverly car and getting it dirty

i have to get an inspection first as its that guy that gives me the chassis number, and he's doing all my sva paper work lol

I popped into Maidstone DVLA on the way home from Gillingham, and was told I'd need an appointment, which was duly booked (at the DVLA office)
for a week later. Drove there, chap looked at car for 5 mins, I waited (1/2 hr) while they went through my paperwork, got tax disc and plate
entitlement form. Picked up plates on way home.

Notts similar according to the VRO man who was very helpful, he said ring the day before to double check, but should be no problem to drop in on the way home from SVA (VRO is a couple of miles up the road from SVA place)
I went down to the DVLA for my inspection yesterday - drove the car FOR THE FIRST TIME
Nerve wracking in the pouring rain but arrived without incident (apart from a few water leaks)
Inspection took about 15 mins, checking mainly engine & chassis numbers but he was taking photos of key components and the car in general.
Then back in the office took all my receipts and a cheque, then said I should hear from them today.
They phoned me as promised and I can pick up my new 2007 registration docs tomorrow morning - woohoo!
Just got get my plates made and I'm sorted.
Bloody well done that man.
Can I book my passenger ride now? or do I wait until I am back?

Coming out of the DVLA office I then went straight down to my local sign shop and got my number plates made up. I got a slightly undersized rear one
and a small self adhesive one for the front. Not strictly legal but anything bigger will look heeooge so I will risk it.
Unfortunately the wind & rain today (80mph in Essex) made it difficult to have a real test drive so just did a few miles and came back home -
well, you have to don't you!
Initial impressions are that it is bloody quick!! 2nd gear launches are definitely the order for the day as first gear seems far too low. I've
had a couple of water leaks (road water coming in) but I think I have them sorted now. The only thing I am not happy with is the sealing of the window
sections - they try to balloon out when doing higher road speeds and I was afraid that the passenger side was going to flip open at one point! This
must be due to having some positive cabin pressure I suppose. I will therefore have to fit a couple of internal 'over centre' catches for
added security.
I may have a ground clearance issue too as I managed to scrape something going over a section of undulating road - maybe winding the springs up a
little will cure this. The brakes are 'interesting' at the moment as my bias bar seems to be favouring the rear brakes and I cannot take
advantage of the 4 pot Wilwoods on the front yet. Trouble is I just can't reach the bias bar and need to hire the services of a skinny mechanic
(again ) to crawl in and sort it out for me.
Otherwise I am a happy chappy.

Consider a not so skinny mechanics services offered
The doors lifting would probably be down to a negative pressure build up at speed above the top of the door.... as the air goes over the windscreen it
will go in an arc and return to the roof about a foot or more behind the screen, this causes a negative pressure that will be sucking on the top of
the door.
It occurs to me that having a vent up there that you could open might work to not only releive the pressure but also get fresh air flowing through the
car... worth investigating maybe.
I'd almost say I can't wait to return for a test ride... but the weather here in Cape town is so nice and the view of the mountain is
breathtaking.... Think I'll nip down to the beach for a few beers in a minute...... I love my job lol.
