MOT again!
David Jenkins - 19/3/07 at 11:05 AM

<begin rant>
Just got my tax renewal form - and again it stated that an MOT is required! The car's 2.5 years old.

This time I went down to the local DVLA office and spoke to the bloke behind the counter - he went off to speak to the inspector, then came back and said that I didn't need one until 3 years after first registration (as we all know). He did want to check the car's SVA details before sending me my disc, but it should be in the post today (that's what he said, anyway).

I WISH THEY'D GET THEIR ACT TOGETHER!!!

I had the same issue and complained to Swansea and insited I was right, eventually the girls on the phone got the hump and said well just fill in a form V112 (Excemption from MOT) and then take it into the post office to tax.

I did this and explained to the person behind the counter that the DVLA said to fill in the form and she basically said not sure why they ask you to fill that in as we don't keep them.

She then proceeded to tax the car by just ticking the 'exempt from MOT' box on her screen and 5 mins later I walked out with my tax disc!

So the moral of the story is just fill in a V112 and tell the post office the DVLA told you to do this and then you could get it taxed at the PO!

Worked for me and you can download the form online.

HTH,
Rich.

Try taxing it online, you dont have to show any docs, it will check MOT and Insurance

Couldn't do it on-line...

As promised, my tax disc arrived in the post this morning... at least one DVLA office (Ipswich) can get things right...

Sigh.

At least it's the last time I'll suffer this nonsense - car gets its first MOT in October (is it really that long since the SVA?)
