dvla problem?
rpm - 20/6/07 at 05:39 PM

Hi, i bought my mk as a rolling chassis with engine fitted (1998 zx9r) now it's getting close to registering it as i only have the sva retest to do. the potential problem is that the engine number is not a valid kawasaki one, (i know this cos i rang them) so, as i'm getting a q plate how much checking does the dvla do? does there data base reference with kawasaki? i've no idea where the engine was sourced from or whether it's dodgy or not. how likely do you think it will be that it comes up as a problem when registering? i'd be glad for advice/opinions Roger

i dont see any problems as long as you're going for a q plate

your v5 will just have the engine number put on it as its stamped on your engine

It's not a problem IF you can prove the date of manafacture for the emissions testing at SVA.... The usual way is through the engine number....

It shouldn't be a problem as its post 95 you wont need to confirm its age for SVA. And i doubt very much if the DVLA will do any number cross referencing.

Can't see any probs for SVA as if it's a '98 engine you'll have to have CAT etc anyway.
For registration they do normally inspect the vehicle, if the engine no. has obviously been stamped (ie amateurish looking) or if they check whether it is a valid Kawasaki no.(which I don't think they do) you may have a problem because although you bought the car & engine in good faith if they decide the engine is nicked you then don't own it & would have to seek redress thro whoever you bought from. It's like buying a nicked car, you pay for it but it belongs to the insurance company which paid out on it & if found will be returned to them, you would get no recompense

The dvla bloke couldn't read all of mine, but that didn't matter. He just looked up the V5 for the original car and used the one listed. Do you have the original Reg?

i've done the sva test already, no real probs just a few picky bits as the examiners assessor happened to be there that day ( just my luck!) from whats been said hopefully i'm worrying about nothing and will soon be on the road!
