SVA Pass
flak monkey - 20/7/07 at 06:40 AM

Passed SVA at norwich yesterday morning. Re-test took literally 5 mins.

Now I just have to sort out getting the car to the dvla. Was originally told I could drive it (by the DVLA themselves) and was then told yesterday I couldnt, literally an hour before I should have been at my inspection. So it looks like I will have to borrow a trailer, again.

Excellent, well done, on the roads soon then!

Top news David

It's a great feeling when you finally get that little A5 MAC certificate in your hands - I remember not knowing how to thank the examiner enough!

Also had the same issues with DVLA telling me yes, then no on driving to the inspection. I borrowed a trailer in the end as I didn't want anything to possibly go wrong when I was that close to being road legal.

Just need some decent weather now though

Well done m8... now hope for some good weather to go with your grin!!!

I had the same problem with Bristol DVLA. They told me I could drive it one minute, then when I double checked they said that they don't mind, but the police had told them to no longer allow people to drive to the inspections. I guess the police don't have the time to pull people over and check the paperwork anymore?

If you ask them nicely, some centers can do home visit inspections.

Congratulations on the pass!!

Well done!

Glad to hear it, David - When do you get your results of have you had them already?...

GaryM - 20/7/07 at 07:36 AM

Congrats on your pass, well done.

I've just had a similar experience with DVLA.

Passed SVA on Wednesday, Trailered the car to the SVA test in Yeading, although I could have legally driven 20 miles down the M4 (in morning rush hour) in a car that might have been an accident waiting to happen.

Tried to licence it at Reading DVLA office (5 miles away) the next day but was told they could not inspect it in Reading (no insurance) and I would have to take it to Newbury (30 miles away)!!

I asked if I could drive it there and was told no 'because it's not licenced'. I asked why I can drive to VOSA SVA but not DVLA inspection but they didn't know.

So I thought thats OK, i'll find the next nearest DVLA office that does while-you-wait inspections/licensing and take it there instead, after all i've got to hire a trailer again anyway BUT DVLA (Swansea) informed me I could not take it anywhere else for an inspection/licence, it had to be my local office!

Anyway after a bit of a moan the Reading Office manager offered to do a home inspection next week so I gratefully accepted.

Building the car the was the easy bit!!

Gary

Very well done indeed David. Its turning into quite a year for you. im well chuffed.

I wonder what would happen if youhad the car outside DVLA - no trailer - and just said a mate has dropped you off on transporter, gone to do a job and will collect yoiu later???? Mind you they may have windows in the building (not like they can see past their noses sometimes though!!)

mike smith1 - 20/7/07 at 08:09 AM
