Hi,
I posted a topic on here a few weeks ago regarding the optimum material for bushes. The general consensus seemed to be Polyurethane.
I have since aquired some polyurethane, what i now need to know is..........
Do i have to have a steel crush tube inserted into the bush, or can i just turn the polyu to fit the outer tube and drill a suitable hole in the bush
i.e no crush tube??
Also, does anyone have any thoughts on using M8 bolts for the bushes (wishbones and axle)? or would i be better to stick to M10 or M12?
Thanks
You'll definately need a crush tube,I wouldgo with the thickest bolt you can get away with but I think 10 mill is the norm.
Cheers,
Bob
MK use M12. And even The Book use 3/8".
I've gone with M12.
They're cheap and readily avalable. Can't see much benefit in going smaller.

I take on board your advice about the bolt sizes. Thanks.
I am slightly confused about the crush tube tho'. I was under the impression that the crush tube was there to allow the mounting bolt to be
tightly fastened without crushing the mounting bracket onto the bush.
I dont agree about the rotation issue that Syd has raised. Surely if there is to be any rotation it will be between the bolt and the crush tube (if
used, if not the bolt and the polyu bush). Maybe i have misunderstood or missed something?
I think i will use the crush tubes anyway.
Wish people wouldn't ask this question as it usually starts an argument!
Play nicely kids!

OK, i understand what you mean now Syd. You have to remember that not everyone is as clever as you obviously are!!!
By the way, i can understand the occasional one syllable word, its just when you start adding big words one after another that i get confused.
I can't believe i just bit at that comment!!!
Anyway, as i mentioned above, i intend to use crush tubes - so this whole thread is a bit pointless now.
Syd, I am also using spitfire bushes, but mine are locked on the crushtube, and the movement is taken up in the rubber, not in the bushes ability to
move around the bolt, mine are only copperslipped to prevent corrosion, should I need to remove them later.
Can you clarify, are your bushes intended to rotate about the fixing bolt?
