My Neighbour has just replaced a split top hose on his Impreza STi V reg.

The car is now overheating, is there a special method for filling the coolant on this type of engine?

all i did with mine was fill with coolent/water then run engine at idle with cap off then top up as it pumps round the engine till it was full. mine was a 96 uk turbo.

Never had an issue.
