Sierra = Merkur XR4Ti
chrisf - 4/3/04 at 08:04 PM

First post on this board. Talked with a fellow doing a similar build as I ('blade/Miata/IRS/Locost), and he suggested using a Sierra rear diff. Because of the awkward gearing required by a BEC, I completely argree. However the problem is that the US market never got a Sierra. However we did get a Merkur XR4ti, which I understand is very similar. Does anyone know the difference? I ask this group only because it seems international in nature.

IIRC...essentially no difference.

Not Mr Fiaccone by any chance?

From Locost NA?

Hang around here it's a good forum...

Yes, same person. Was it the (mis) spelling that gave me away? Others have suggested this group to me. It looks like a huge resource. Glad I'm here. Thanks for the opion on the Merkur diff.

XR4Ti comes with open diff and rear drum brakes
3.64:1 for 5 speed cars, 3.36:1 for automatics.

Happy hunting, Ted
