Hi guys
Whats the best way of getting 20 years of crap off my front uprights?

I've put the brake calipers through the electrolysis bath, they look fantastic now theyre reassembled and painted so it seems a shame to bolt them to cruddy front uprights!

I dont really want to do the same with the uprights as presumably this will knacker the wheel bearings which are in good nick so I could do without replacing them.

Anyone got any good ideas or is it down to several hours with the wire brush?
Still I suppose thats better than revising for finals!!........

Rough wire brush first to dislodge the worst of the dirt, then degrease, then more wire brush, then Hammerite or your preferred alternative

not exactly locost but Rally Design sell brand new Sierra uprights - saved me hours of hard work cleaning and checking bearings, etc..

yeah, I seriously considered their new uprights when I was at Stoneleigh. COuldnt quite justify it though when mine are in good shape just a bit mucky and rusty!

Looks like I'll have to aquire a good sized tub of elbow grease then!

why would putting them in soapy water ruin them? I would bung them in the tank! as it only attacks rust ( spray chain lube into the bearings just incase)

I took mine to work and spent an hour with a shotblaster, then acid etch primer and silver paint - I also did the same with the calipers, but they weren't as easy to paint ! as you can probably see!

they do look good!
If only i had access to a shotblaster!
Sod it. I'll bung them in the electrolysis bucket and see what happens!
