It looks likely it will cost around £200 to get my English diff rebuild/refurbed (passed on new bearings all round and then set-up correctly).
I wonder if the money would be better spent on a new Quaife ATB diff at 420+VAT
Anyone know how much work is involved in fitting a Quaife in replacement to the normal diff ?
Your still going to have the bearing and set up costs on top but if you want one now is the time
Is it just the CW & P setup or is there more involved with the Quaife ?
Hi
The prices i gave you last time where Inclusive of fitting the quaife unit.
The ATB unit is a relatively straight swap. The hard part is in doing the rest of the job correctly. No point in buying and fitting the expensive part
( The ATB ) only to then not have the rest done properly Ie new bearings and a solid spacer.
There are quite a few companies that will do it for the price guide i posted last post. Me Inc.
Cheers Matt
Sorry Matt, I don't remember getting a quote to do this from you ...maybe the old age is taking more of a toll than I thought. Care to resend your costings ?
Hi
Link to your last post regarding diff units.

Cheers Matt
Obviously having a senior moment !
Thanks Matt. Would a rebuilt English Axle handle the same 250BHP as a Quaife set-up ?
Hi
No reason why not but would need to be in tip top condition Inc planet gears also. Quite a few Westies Etc running 200 - 250 with the solid spacer
setup quite successfully.
Cheers Matt
hmm, you got me thinking the same thing again... i couldn't afford a LSD for my atlas axle, but i want one later, so now i've just realised
i've been spending a fair bit on my open diff to get it to fit. new side gears, will need bearings, fitting etc, and will need it again when i
fit a LSD...
hmmm, should i just get a quaife atb now like i want anyway, even though i still can't really afford one...?
Matt, wheres cheapest to get a quaife atb for 18 spline atlas axles?
www.gearboxman.co.uk is the cheapest i found so far, £120 cheaper than direct from quaife

Wishful thinking ....
you'rs is 382+vat from burton power!
mine is considerably more than other places
hi
LoL Quaife are one of those companies that can not be bothered to deal direct with the customers. Always cheaper from there agents / dealers Etc.
Cheers Matt
thought that might be the case Matt lol
so they price themselves way out of it so we go to the dealers?
do you know who might have one the cheapest? i was surprised gearboxman was so much cheaper, but do you know anyone else cheaper?
Hi
Not really just find the cheapest trust worth supplier. i am not a quaife dealer or agent. I usually let the customers sort the parts. Phil Jones Who
dose the gearboxes is a god supplier. Not sure he dose the diffs though.
Cheers Matt
LOL even a Good supplier as well a gearbox GOD.

ooh god supplier lol
cheers Matt, i don't think i'll find much cheaper than gearboxman. got to go to work, but i'll carry on the search when i get home
tonight
Quaife English diff from gearbox man is £450+VAT the prices on the website are out of date.
£55 more
not looking good for my atlas then
Whole axle is with the boys at BGH gearboxs (or Fisher Sportscars depending on which side of the table you stand)
Hopefully they can get it all working again.
