Hi, had a look at one of these and quite like them. One question is... if i build a R1 powered version do i need reverse for IVA and how is this mounted? Quite a small car.

Just wondered if anyone is building one on here

Not sure about reverse. Uses chain drive onto a fiesta diff with a sprocket bolted to it and the R1 sprocket on the gearbox. Don't see how you would connect reverse or where there would be any room....

Can anyone else help?

Don't really want to build the CEC version.. i fancy a dabble into the BEC world

Don't know I would guess a gear on the diff, to a starter motor, you would only engage motor in neutral!

you can fit a reverse, Andy raced his in RGB last year and you have to have a reverse fitted.

It troubles me to say this, because I've never said a bad word about a Sylva in my life and I have the greatest of repective for MK's designs and workmanship.

However.

Much as I like the concept of both the Riot and the MK Midi, (they both move the game on to a level relevant to the current donor stock out there, which is no longer the Ford Sierra) there are things about both of them which I really can't get on with.
In both cars, if you look at the rear of the chassis in plan, (not elevation) the engine compartment is basically a big open box with sod all traingulation apart from a small amount on the bottom plane.
The top of both chassis is a big open space with nothing going on.

Don't want to pi5h on anybody's bonfire, but that aspect of both cars, I really don't like.
It's relatively simple to build independent triangulated structures at either side of the engine bay which both closely fit around the engine and carry the suspension. There are loads of respected racing car designs out there with very similar structures and not by mistake I would suggest.

Still fine cars, both of them, and I would have one in a moment, but just being honest, I don't like that aspect of both cars.

when i went up with toltec to collect his riot chassis the finished r1 car that they had there used a starter motor reverse mechanism.

Ok so it is possible. I haven't driven one but have seen one and Jeremy seems to know his apples. Nice fella too. I'm half way through zetec upgrade on my supercat (with help from ashg by the way ) but after that i may be looking into a Riot or a single seater of some sort.

I think Martin (MK Engineering) has already sorted the reverse aspects for the MK Midi, so not a bad place to start looking
