Which Tyre for 9" Wide rims?
MakeEverything - 5/2/11 at 10:09 PM

Ive bitten the bullet for a pair of replacement rear rims which are 9" wide.

Should i go for 225/45/16 or 245/45/16?

The rim works out to be 228.6mm.

Im going to need as large a foot print as i can, and im not worried about the handling differences etc.

245 will go on quite comfortably, you'd probably even get away with a 255 if you really wanted.....

You want the side wall vertical as possible to get the contact patch flat.
If the sidewalls V out it can cause a weird feeling from the rear end

You'd be looking for at least a 255+

A 225 would be stretched. A 225 fits a 8" rim perfectly...

If you look at www.tirerack.com you can find charts like this which show the specs for each tire size and the wheels they fit. I assume the measured rim width is the preferred rim width from the manufacturer.
