Rear brakes for 13" wheels
madrallysport - 15/8/12 at 07:43 AM

Guys i have a aries car, i was wondering what brakes cal's are you using on the rear of cars that fit under 13" wheels.

I had cal's but they are non handbrake ones, i now need handbrake type ones.

the car is IRS at the back running.

Thanks in advance.

Hi
Drums on the back are perfectly adequate for such a light car
And possibly lighter than discs , our indy failed the first IVA because the rears were locking up
before the fronts & we have Willwood 4 pot callipers on the fronts, std sierra drums on the rear
We had to fit an auto bias valve on the rears. passed 2nd time ok.
Good luck.
René

I'm using peugeot 205GTI calipers all round on my Aries and they work to good effect! Small, mostly ali, half decent handbrake mechanism (not that I have it connected).

XR4i 10" drums on mine, completely fill the wheels.

Wilwood handbrake calipers but I forget what kind of discs they are, I got the discs from Mac#1 Motorsports.

and this is how they look behind a 13" Team Dynamic Pro Race 1.2

What did you do for a mounting bracket using the wilwoods?

Here's my version:

It was far from easy, but very neat and light.

Hi guys,

Sorry to revive an old thread but this is where the search button led me!

Just started looking at the rear brakes on my build and finally bit the bullet and decided to move away from sierra drums (even threw my back pates away to make me find a solution!)

phelpsa - i think ive just read the thread of your build (if its not you then they're identical haha) on RR but as im not a member there i thought id post the question here instead... the brackets you used to mount the 205 calipers? do you still have the cad files used to cut them? its such a neat setup!

the other problem is that im using haynes roadster style rear uprights, has anyone combined that caliper with haynes parts before and did it end well?

cheers

Lew

I'm not sure I do (moved PCs a couple of times since then!). I'll have a look tonight.

Any joy?
I'm also struggling to find the mk5 escort discs you used, all the ones I found seem to be much lower offset!?
Thanks again!
Lew

Unfortunately not! It may be on my old laptop at my parents house, will try and remember to check when I next return!

As for the disc, i went to the local motorfactors and had a flick through their catalogue with all the dimensions in. Alternatively, have a look on Brakes International, or Westfield used to sell them.

Looks like im going on a trip to the scrap yard friday afternoon! see if i can get a complete setup with cables etc, maybe even get a disc off an old escort if they have one in!

Looks like your luck is in! I was searching for a CAD model this evening and stumbled across the caliper bracket drawing! What's your email address?

Lew The Machine - 7/11/13 at 11:07 PM

Haha awesome! I'll pm you my email address now!
