Clutch Cable + Handbrake Cable Help - Haynes Roadster
Tatey - 5/11/12 at 03:10 PM

I have a couple of questions on fitting my clutch and handbrake cables.

My clutch cable looks simple enough but from this thread:

http://www.haynes.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=7143&highlight=clutch+cable

I am not sure what I am doing wrong, as my setup looks like this:

Do people remove the rubber bung and washer on the end that goes into the pedal box? I also think that I will be changing the pedal box so that the clutch cable boss is at 90 degrees to the back and not angled like it is currently, then the cable will install underneath my rear brake line.

Also for my handbrake cable I have fitted one side of the cable to the drum and will be pulling the remaining cable through the other drum and cutting it to the correct length and fitting a solderless nipple. I just want to make sure I have the cable correctly installed before I do this, my setup looks like the following, is this right?

Hi
Remove the rubber bung & washer , we had to make a nylon tube on ours so that the outer fits tightly in the tube
Then it will be straight.
On the link it says leave the two nuts on the engine side, Yes you should but once you have adjusted the
cable with the ness free play You lock the 2 nuts together, (so you don't loose your adjustment)
Definitely re-route that brake pipe.
As for the handbrake it looks fine to me , same as ours.
Good luck
René

Sorry can't comment on your cables but I'm a bit concerned about the standatd of welding on your chassis. Is it all like that?

Nick which bits are you referring to? I know the bit on the front side of the handbrake bracket is a bit shocking, it sounds like a cop out but i've found the pictures tend to make them look worse than they actually are.

Well, most of it TBH. It looks like the weld is just sat on top with little or no penetration. Maybe it does look worse in the pics?
