Hi
Any one made their own suspension bushes??
Here are my prototypes:
The mould is very crude and needs more work if I'm going to more on to actual bushes for the car:
However, finished mock up actually seems quite good!
This test bush is made in very hard (and brittle) PU resin, Shore hardness D70. Now, I know this is not the right material, I'm looking at
starting with a PU rubber in the A65 range, does this seem reasonable?
The best thing with making my own is 1. Saves me a lot of cash! 2. My tube dia is larger than the book and the tube was also cheaper and 3. I can have
different bush hardnesses on different components, ie easier to alter if it isn't right first time.
Anyone done similar??

I have to add, that if i had a lathe, and the skill to use it I WOULD !!
i machined my own
was very hit and miss size wise as the material grabbed and did not machine well
they have however lasted 3 years so far ;-)
I made some bushes to fit the original mountings on my blade engine by buying some cheap land rover bushes and spinning up in my lathe, high speed and sharp tool worked for me
Most 'plastic' machine better if they are kept in the deep freeze.
Yes you will find that with Polyurethane rubber. Hence why I'm casting it.
What harnesses did you guys use?? Just wanted a starting point grade really.
I don't have a lathe but prefer moulding anyway as my background is composites.

Rob I bought some 50 mm nylon to have a go with some time, was thinking more of steering column type bushes but never happened yet, got 3 lathes in
sunny Carlisle, give us a shout if you fancy some turned ones.

I seem to recall a thread were someone had moulded there own bushes. Mold could make many at once. Might be worth a good search...
Possibly THIS thread?

yeah...I know that guy...LOL
I looked in to doing this myself untill I found that you can buy them for 47 pence each from Wisbech engineering in all the colours of the rainbow.
Morning,
Just looked on the Wisbech price list for 2012, and yes if you buy 101 of these they cost £0.47 each, but it does not specify the dimensions and the
crush tube that goes with them are £5.00, so that will soon add up.....
I'm happy doing it myself, the learning I have had in making my own has been fun.

I made my own engine mountings out of a polyurethane kit, turned out OK.
Used this kit
Stripped out the existing rubber which was all torn
ANd this was the finished item
Once completed I sprayed black plasti-dip over the bare metal and ended up with home made poly mounts. Engine mounts you can buy in poly but this is
the gearbox mount that nobody makes in poly so it should be unique.

Hi all,
Well I'm just about done with the bushes I reckon.
Here is my final mould and the first of the bushes, only thing I need to do is vac the final bushes prior to casting:
They have turned out ok!might find I need harder rubber later, but we will see when it's all put together.
