Okay so I'm stripping the front down again to start and look towards fitting sides etc, and hey presto good job I did. Looks like the taper in the steering arm, standard sierra stubs, is too big and the ball joint is pulling too far through. It's split the boot on the ball joint, which is a bit peeving as its brand new.

As far as I know it's the escort track rod ends. Ideas anyone?

Two main possibilities

(1) You have a combination of a MK2 Escort rack and Mk2 Escort RS2000 track rod ends
(2) You have a Mk1 Escort steering rack and Mk1 Escort track rod ends.


Essential you need MK2 Escort rack and MK2 Escort (1100/1300/1600) track rod ends, Sierra track ends also fit.

I did the same thing I bought RS2000 track rod ends and the taper was too small for the sierra uprights, I just bought sierra track rod ends and it all fitted perfectly. My steering rack was the MK2 escort type

Magic. I knew it would be a simple fix. Off to the motor factors with stub, rack extension and track rod end I will go then!

I needed to strip it all down anyway to ream the bottom ball joint hole out. Just done one and oh boy, not looking forward to the second!!
Especially as I've stayed up after a nightshift to have a play in the garage!! Me-thinks I may have to pop for a power nap.
