Question about rod ends for adjustable wishbones
twybrow - 8/2/14 at 06:32 PM

Evening all,

I am just looking to have someone make up some adjustable upper (front) wishbones for my car, so that I can add some much needed caster, and have a bit more adjustment.

I was planning to use M12 (fine thread?) rod ends from McGill Motorsport - do I need the super fancy ones they do, or the intermediate fancy version? Is there any need for fine thread (high torque and finer adjustment) or should I just keep it standard?

Intermediate fancy (teflon lined)

Super fancy (teflon and kevlar lined)

Also would I just order 4 x right hand thread versions? I cant see why I would need to mix it up with LH and RH threads (only needed where you have two rod ends attached together...?).

I was planning to order:

4 x M12 RH rod ends
4 x locking nuts
4 x ERW threaded inserts

Many thanks.

what diamiter are your current bushes/tubes/bolts ? some are 5/8" i think or 1/2"

Current bushes are 1/2" I/D (bolts are sleeved to sleeved to M12).

Current wishbone tube is 0.875" (7/8" o/d.

I used McGill cheap 1/2" UNF on mine, you will also need to add displacement washers.

Just spray with oil before use, seems perfectly comfortable on the road, really good on the track

I've had the standard ones for several years now and they have worked fine with no signs of wear. Haven't done that many miles though.
