Fitting escort rack
Markymark - 6/3/16 at 03:16 PM

Hi all

Proper stupid question coming up

What side does the spacer go when fitting the rack?

Tried both sides, neither look right!

Many thanks

PS It's a fury by the way

Spacer ? Do you mean the lower half of the pressed steel clamp on the pasenger side?

Hi

Thanks for the reply

It's just a flat piece of steel, so yes knew it went under the clamp on one side or other, N/S looked the likely candidate, but looking at photos on the internet, the pictures I saw of the N/S mounting on a fury didn't seem to have it, and I couldn't find one of the O/S

Anyway, on your advise it's going on the N/S, thanks BT.

I haven't got the spacer on mine. The mounts didn't require it (but Fury chassis have varied a bit with different owners). If you mount without it, is the rack parallel to the chassis?

markymark could you measure the overall length of the escort rack please i assume its a mk2 escort rack, thanks

spacer is under passenger side on my rack. different chassis though

My Fury doesn't have one and I've not noticed any uneven level on the rack. Having said that I've not driven it yet or put a level on it...

Thanks for the replies

It all sounds inconclusive, I have not fitted it yet due to the mountings on the chassis being too wide to sit in the bushes, so wanted to be 100% sure before I take the angle grinder to it!

Rack length end to end is 1045mm, hope that helps rash12

So to conclude I'll grind the mountings back on both sides to fit the bushes, bolt it up and see if it's parallel with the chassis.

Many thanks all

Hi All

Thanks to all who answered to my post, here is a little update.

So I ground my rack mounts on the chassis to except the rack mounting bushes.

Then bolted up the rack with no lower plate

The N/S clamp bolted down tight

The O/S clamp would not tighten down enough, This is as tight as it would go.

So used a couple of washers on each bolt as shims

So after all that I measured the distance from the rack body to the chassis, the O/S is 1mm closer than the N/S.

So a couple of final questions,

1 Are the washers ok under the O/S clamp, as the clamp simply not big enough.

2 Is the 1mm difference going to effect anything (I don't think so but thought I would ask)

Thanks again folks

Mark
