Needing to ream the sierra front hubs to accept the maxi ball joints. I have read the axminster reamer was the tool for the job but is no longer
available. How have you got round this or do you have one you could sell to me?

You should be able to buy a taper reamer if you know the angle seems unlikely that they are unavailable however if they are you will be able to get something close sharpened to the correct angle. Try Raynor Tool Sharpening Services. They would make you one if you asked nicely....££££
The taper angle your looking for is 7.15 degrees
may also be refered to as 1.5 inch taper per foot, or a 1 in 8 taper.
I got one from a US company called XKUT. However it wasnt particularly locost.

I had one that I used on a spare set on my uprights, but as per the instructions when passed on to me, I forwarded it onto another member on here for
use. Unfortunately I don't know where it ended up, as it was passed around a lot!
I did find out later that a company called Chadwick & Trefethen do a reamer to the correct 7.15 degrees - check out their website, as you ma be
able to order one from them for the job.
These are not cheap. The cheapest I can find is from the USA for around $80 plus carriage and duty. Tried Scottish Kitcars but they only want to sell
me a pair of pre-reamed sierra hubs for £275+Vat.
Anybody know of somewhere in the UK that I could send them to to be reamed? Got to be cheaper than buying my own reamer.

There was a similar post on here a few months ago - i think someone from Procomp in Birmingham posted to say they could do the reaming.
Ste, very grateful for sending me up the reamer but not getting good results at all (and it is very hard work and nowhere near the depth it has to
be), using the reamer with some good quality cutting fluid but not getting a smooth taper. Going to stop with the hand reamer (before I wreck my hub)
and get the professionally done.

You need to do it by hand, putting your body weight into it, and turn it slowly keeping a constant pressure.
I've done a few sets and the hardest bit was keeping it square. I can't see how it would cut like that if doing it by hand ?

Looks like you're not putting enough weight behind it. Mine started to look like that then i was told to properly lean on it and go slowly so it

Hi everyone
I am now in a position where I need my Sierra hubs reamed.
The tool seems to be very expensive.
Any ideas where I can get it done.
Or would someone on here do it for me. I would obviously pay for the service.

For info should anyone else in the south east need this info, I got mine done by Car Builder Solutions - they did it by hand while I waited and
charged about a tenner - though this was about 12 years ago. Might be worth ringing them to see if they can still do it before travelling

MK did my Sierra front uprights for me when I collected my kit from them. IIRC they had a pillar drill setup with a jig to hold the upright.
You could ask a local engineering company if they've got a suitable reamer and are happy to do it for you. Few beer tokens should probably see
it done easily enough.
I'm all for owning tools for the job, but once done I can't see you needing the reamer again!
