Gents,
Can anyone help me identify the ball joints/rod ends on the locost? getting some conflicting info on the usual interweb places.
I think it has 4 hole cortina lower ball joints and cortina steering rod ends. However the top joints have me stumped, apparently they are transit
maxi joints? I cant find the correct thread size listed anywhere though. Anyone have a link/part number for the correct ones?
Can anyone confirm before I order the parts please?
Cheers,
Jay
Have a look for Transit drag links.
Top will be Transit/Sherpa steering drag link (rh thread) end.
Track rod end will be MK2 Escort tre.
Bottom ball joint difficult to see on my phone but Maxi ball joint is commonly used.
Can't see the lower ball joints , a better photo might help? Austin Maxi ball joints have two bolt fixings , Cortina my 3 , 4 and 5 use four bolts IIRC .
My ron champion locost setup is
Top = mk1 transit RHS track rod end, both sides
Bottom = maxi bottom swivel, both sides
Track rod end = Mk2 escort track rod end, both sides
BTW, your steering rack is about 100 mm to high, and needs to be lowered (imho)
Mine is like this

Yes, that rack looks way too high, but your's looks a little low to me - I may be wrong, but I thought that the track rods should be parallel to
the lower suspension arm/wishbone to avoid bump-steer.

Gents,
My bad... I should have mentioned that the car is sitting on a wheeled jig/frame so its sitting 9.5" above the ground with the suspension
bottomed out. Thats why its on such a steep angle.
This is it lifted up to more of a likley position
And here are some better pics of the joints...
Thanks for the input gents

Top ball joint on ebay is the following
https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LOCOST-WESTFIELD-TOP-BALL-JOINT-TRANSIT-DRAG-LINK-END/360477993376?hash=item53ee29a9a0:g:0p0AAOSwSypY8hOq
Bottom ball joint on Kitcar is the following
http://www.kitcarparts-scotland.co.uk/maxi-type-ball-joint/
Track rod ends are mk2 escort (if the rack is an escort one ?)
But I do know there are two types, one is metric, the other imperial,
as for my suspension setup, does it look about right, as its been like that for 19 years, and seems ok
steve
Thought that was a given

Thanks for the info gents, much appreciated.
Think I have sorted the steering rack angle now its sitting on wheels.
It might be a good idea to measure the top ball joint thread diameter and pitch? I suspect it could be 18mm X1.5mm pitch
