reducing camber--which effect on toe?
alfas - 8/9/18 at 05:11 PM

cortina uprights, escort sterring rack on a locost

which effect on toe (tracking) has a reudced camber setting?

do i get more toe-in or toe out (and consecutively need to correct it)

Negative camber looks like this from the front //----\
Positive camber is \-----//

Without adjusting the tracking, the fo0llowing will happen
Putting negative camber in, will make the steering tow out
Positive camber will make the steering toe in

as my offside is -2 and my nearside is -1, whereas i would favour -0,5 for a roadcar, those are good news.

means if i reduce camber to -0,5 i will get more toe-in, so when setting tracking (back) to zero the track-rod ends would screw out from the steering arms.

the reason all behind this is: at the moment there isnt any visible thread left on the steering arms, track is slightly toe-out and i would prefer it more to zero.

I have my road only, Locost at around .05 to 1 % neg camber, and 0% toe, all seems fine to me

If there is not enough thread to adjust, you will need some more cut/died in, or slimmer lock nuts?

I have about 15mm spare thread on both sides,

the lock nuts are already slim ones.... so no chance to improve anything from that direction.

lengthening the thread by cutting aditional turns is not what I prefer. this all can be solved by setting correctly the camber.

It depends where your camber adjustment is done. If the adjustment is on the top wishbone then reducing neg' camber will cause more toe-in. If the adjuster is on the bottom wishbone then less neg camber will cause more toe-out.

After a bit of experimenting, I found one turn on the lower ball joint required 1/2turn on the track rod to keep the tracking the same (transit joint and escort rack).

yep, its on upper wishbone.

meanwhile i corrected the settings.....camber -0,7 on both sides and traclking set to 0

problem sorted.
