Need help ID'ing steering tie rod arm
woodsy144 - 5/1/25 at 10:06 AM

Hello all.
I am helping a club member who is not confident with computers.
He has what he believes is a Robin Hood, and it appears that one of the tie rod ends is stuffed. So if we can get some help it would be great. I also think that the part has been machined with a new course thread put on it. So can you please:
- id the front suspension layout (I think it is Ford sierra)
- id the steering rack
- offer guidance on a replacement part

Thank you all

Likely Sierra or Escort rack, with a Transit drag link on the end.

1. Sierra hub.
2. Sierra steering rack.
3. Not sure. It's nota transit drag link end as they're not offset and the tread is male, where that one is female. Ut could be Sierra as the lower arm is also Sierra.

Generally though, that's a track rod end. A tie rod is more usually a fixed rod controlling rear hub toe (unless you're in US) or holding a lower arm in the same way the ARB is in that Sierra setup.

The modification looks to be an extension of the track rod. You'll probably find the rack itself has been shortened in the middle. All about getting the knuckle/inner joint in a better position for bump steer purposes.

My mistake, I was remembering that mine used a Transit drag link, but that was for the top joint!

I've looked again and it does look like it could be a standard Sierra. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/133867330930?_skw looks like there is a slight offset. I've just gone outside and looked under my cover and my RH Series 3 definitely has the offset to its Sierra joints.

It’s a series 1 S7 with the Sierra front crossmember it will be a standard, (early?) Sierra rack and track rod ends. Unless someone’s had a go at it!

Thank you all for your help.
We believe the failure is in the drum stick tie rod ends, not the outer offset track rod ends.
Does anyone have some possible part numbers for these parts??

You need to get the track rod off the rack, looks like there are 2 types for Sierra, one with a small thread, one with a large thread

See Here

Or here

Alternative would be to pick up a SH complete steering rack, tho' they are becoming few & far between & no guarantee it would be any better than what you have already
