Daily driver suspension creek
number-1 - 23/3/25 at 07:33 PM

I have a peculiar suspension noise on my daily (Hyundai I30 2009) but after about 45-60 mins driving. The O/S/F suspension starts to creek.

Its a creek and not a squeak (Think of a Viking wooden boat in high winds sort of noise)

After about 45 mins of driving It does it going over bumps/normal road conditions and also if you steer really fast left to right. However if you park up for a few mins and then pull off, it wont do it again straight away.

It wont do it stationery when i steer fast left to right and when i press up and down on the front off side when parked

I know there are lots of possibles but based on the conditions that it does it, can anyone rule in a couple of possibilities?

Ive not had time to get out in daylight hours to take a look but will when i get time this week

Cheers

My first guess would be anti-roll bar bushes, the ones securing it to the subframe. Give them a quick dose of silicone spray or similar to see if the noises disappear?

ARB bushes isnt a bad call but also had a couple of i10's recently with creaks and its been the bottom ball joint.

I've had the bearings in the top of the strut making a similar sound, not sure why it would be intermittent though.

I've had springs break causing intermitent creaking, it was difficult to see as it was just half a turn at the bottom of the spring.

Dry bushes is the excuse I've heard a lot. Does it still do it when the roads are wet?

Thanks for all the replies chaps

Ive still not had time to get out there to investigate however it appears its the rear drivers side and not the front as i thought originally, which should make it a bit easier to pin point

The rear had new springs and drop links last year so im going to guess it could be one of those that has failed.

It however, has not done it for the last 3 days travel of 70miles round trip per day so very odd

I once had creaking suspension, mechanic cousins solution ..... give the car a good wash and wash the wheel arches. If it still creaks then take it to a garage otherwise its just dry joints.

Nb we've had the driest April on record so lots of road grime is probably still in the wheel arches.
