uprights

i just have a quick question, if i get a pair of cort. uprights will i be able to fit brakes, etc . from another car?

I know there are a number of brake conversions for Cortina uprights, not the least because Westfeild use them, but I don't know about calipers and discs from other standard cars except the Princess 4pot calipers and vented discs from (I think) the 2.8Capri. There is some question, though, as to whether the extra weight incurred is worth it.

no sorry, what i meant was i can get a pair of uprights , but the left one is bare, i.e. it has no brakes, no discs and the bit that holds the tyre is also not there.

But i have an escort mk4, would i be able to attach its parts to the cort. upright.

The MK 4 escort is FWD and has a drive shaft passing though its hub. The hub will therefore not be suitable but the discs and calipers might be. But you're going to need cortina hubs, that's for sure

No Idea if mk4's will fit but the caliper that you want is aFord M16 and they are virtually for free these days!

i've got the part that actually attaches to the the 2 wishbones and the steering rack, and i think i need discs and brakes

You have got the rare bits then. As Locodude says, calipers are not a big problem, and with a bit of hunting, you will drop on some hubs too, as many people upgrade to alloy hubs.
Or that option is open to you from the start....

great that's what i wanted to know.

T.A.S sell alloy hubs for the group 4 mk2 escort which i think are the same if they are different then it is only the bearing size that is larger...i think they ae also in the demon tweeks catalouge..
happy hunting.....

Don't bother with Demon Tweeks. Straight to the horses mouth...

Trans Auto Sport's number is
01772 454647

The part number for the Gp4 hub is TAS 1190, and the price is £43.40 each (and that's from the 'Confidential Dealer Price List'.) There are also bearing kits available for the hub, part no. TAS 3804 at £17.05 per side. All prices plus delivery and VAT.

No connection, just a satisfied (trade) customer.
