Is there anyone who knows, if a Sierra 4x4 transmission/suspension etc can be fitted into a standard Escort Mk5/6 3dr shell with a few modifications.
Cossie shells cost too much and rare.
Isn't this more or less what Ford did with the Escort Cosworth?
it's a shortened Sierra floorpan with the Escort body put on top.
It's one way of doing it!
I don't think you're going to fit 4x4 gear to an Escort shell, theres no trans tunnel for a start, you'd have to change the suspension front and back,
fabricate engine mountings..............etc......etc.....it's a huge amount of work.
Anythings possible though, we're all building Lotus 7 replicas for £250!!

If you've got a welder, angle grinder and a lot of patience, then yes, anything is possible! I have seen a Mk3 Escort Cabriolet with full Cozzie
running gear, as well as various Mk1 and 2 Escorts. But it going to need big modifications, not for the fainy hearted. Build a Locost instead, drop
the running gear under that and get silly performance!!

Thanks Chrisg, you are right in a way about the escort shell onto a sierra floor pan, but the cossie has a longer wheel base to accomodate the 4x4.
I've thought about, chopping a transmission from sierra, and then chop & weld this into the escort shell. Make/fit various brackets for
engine/transmission and suspension.
I did start a mk1 escort rebuild with a high powered motor etc. for rallying but the shell was too bad.

If you want a 4x4 MK 5 shape Escort then why not buy a 4x4 mk5 shape escort.. they came in the rs2000 flavour... i think they might of done another
spec as well.
A common myth is that the escort cossie is just a escort with a sierra 4x4 floorpan when infact its a totally different shell hand built I think by
karmann.
The problem with the gartrac kits is that they used mk2 escort running gear - so they are a bit of a no no and were only available for mk3/4 escorts
anyway.
A bloke at AC SERVICES near where I live put a sierra floor pan into a mk5 shell and fitted cossie running gear before the escort cosworth came out. I
asked him about it recently (this was over 10 years ago) and he said he was still paying the bank off for how much it cost to do

Er, yeah - what Mr G said. Why dont you look for an Escort 4x4? They only sold like 500 or something crap like that, so good luck, but find one and
Henry Ford has done most of the work for you. It's even a proper permanent 4WD system with 2/3 power to the back, but I dont think there is a rear
LSD, which is a bit turd if that's correct.
Then of course you need a proper engine. I dont really know my MTX75s but I assume possible options would be the good old cossie and the Mondeo V6.
Otherwise I guess its out with the power tools and a tub of elbow grease. I have an article in an old Max Power (er, that someone accidently left
round my house) about a MK3/4 cab that was converted to 4x4 cossie spec so it can be done.
