acdording to haynes, mk 2 escrot hand brake mech., is self adjusting but there is also an adjuster - locking nut type jobbie.

where is this - is it near the handbrake it self? (mine needs a bit of letting out as the cable is a bit too short (new shoes) _ I got rond it temporarily by making small extensions

I think you find thats its the brake shoes that are self adjusting and handbrake cable is manual adjusting,

mk2 escort hand brake cable has a little white plastic adjuster for adjusting the handbrake

Have you got one cable or two to your handbrake lever?

The handbrake mechanism operates the rear self adjusters (ha ha ha! sarcastically) allegedly. I spent a while soaking them in plus gas and beating them with a hammer to get them fairly freed up.

I know that! Where is the bit that you manually adjust?

It has one cable from handbrake to driveers shoe and a rod to the passenger side shoe.

Escort II self adjusters work fairly well but the cable must not be too tight as to stop the self adsjuster working.

The Escort III van used more or less the same type of aduster (the MK3 van continued to use a beam rear axle although it was FWD)
