With the appropiate longer wheel studs what thickness of spacer would be considered safe
For example would something between 6~a max of 10mm I haven't measured it properly yet be absolutely safe, the pcd is 108mm and studs are 12mm

there is a ratio involving the diameter of the studs and the amount of thread that is suppoed to be wound into the nut.
Im sure someone will be along soon to give you the answer 
You need about 6-8 full turns of the nut to be safe. Also, beware of wobbles with spacers - make sure you get the hub centric variety and you should
be ok up to about 10-12mm.

Rallye Design do longer studs if required.
i used 6mm spacers on the front of my kitten before making new wishbones and with longer studs had no problem.
