Hi,
when fitting the standard sierra column, to the MK modified lower column, the steering wheel is where it is.
now if i want to shorten the column, can you push the triangular section back up into the outer column ?
it is only pressed in by looking at it.
If you have the adjustable column, it should be able to move a little.
PS - where in York are you?
nether poppleton.
but the car is in my dads garage in washington !

Ian, your steering wheel is not fixed sticking that far out to the side is it?
Haven't seen front lower wishbones like them before with the coilover mounting bracket underneath, where are they from?
Just been nosey

Methinks they are built to accomadate a nice long pair of coilovers?

I think the triangular bit is one of the key parts that makes the column collapsible as it slides into the column body in the event of a frontal
impact. If you push it in too far it may give you problems at SVA dependant on final configuration.

Paul, No steering wheel is not fixed, actually got rid of the escort one and used the sierra column.
Richard, The lower wishbones came with the struts as a job lot. (second hand)
Also i have tapped the triang tube into the coulmn about 1.5 inch and i stopped hitting it., dont know about how much travel is left but can knock it
in max and then reset to desired.
also, there is something about >15 deg angle in steering system? (fixed systems) i think it passes this also.
Hi fellow builders
Thanks for the advice
Getting closer to IVA....its taken longer than expected lol
Just a few question to see what you can recommend..
1. Dashboards - anyone go Carbon ? and does it have the radius required at the bottom ?
2. Rear arches - do they need rubber edging on them?
3. seats (MK) do they need rubber edging all round then not just in seat belt holes?
4. Moveable seat runners - Long legs (Me) and short legs (Dad) 2 lock positions - is that ok?
5. Brake master cylinder - does it need additional steel plate in bulkhead ie doubled up ?
6. Centre rear view mirror ? as well as side mirrors (we are non windscreen)
7. Decent set of compliant dash switches - BMW mini ?
Also
VIN Pack - We are using MK2 Escort - do you apply to DVLA and get a Chassis number sent back and then put the plate on and the chassis stamped
(welded plate) ? Then apply for IVA?
Car in York so will take it to Beverley i recon.
