Shock brackets
goodguydrew - 8/1/07 at 11:55 PM

what size should the bolt hole be for the shock brackets? Do I just make it the size in the book or wait till I get my shocks first? Is is a standard size?

Probably best to wait until you get your shocks before boring the mounting brackets.

All the coil over shocks I've seen have been fitted with bushes to take a 1/2" bolt but that's not gospel. I sleeved the bushes down to 10mm to avoid having a mix of imperial and metric bolts.

No - could be 10mm, 12mm or 1/2".

Wait until you have your shocks to be safe.

Don't be tempted to drill 10mm holes to largen them later if necessary - they are a bugger to due in situ.

Wait until you get the shocks. Hopefully they'll be metric as metric bolts are cheaper nowadays.

Why does the kit car suspension world persist with imperial sizes?

Id wait mate. MIne were m12 but when i got my avo shocks they were smaller. I reamed the bush tubes out in the end to 12mm.

Hi std bushing from avo gaz protec is either 1/2" or 7/16". Dont be confussed with the kit manufacturers that keep supliying m12 for 1/2" holes

cheers matt

Make them 10mm, then just open them up ith a drill if needed, easier thantrying to reduce hole sizes!

Only there's no chance of opening up the top shock bracket once it's welded in place.

I know!

Hi so the best bet has got to be either drill them 1/2" or 7/16 then you are garanteed of getting shocks whith the right bush in been as they are std size's from all the shock manufacturers.

cheers matt
