Lightest Wheels
beppesignori - 26/12/07 at 11:58 AM

I got a blank check for x-mas to buy a set of wheels. I have my mind set on the Team Dynamics Pro 2 Wheels, but I would like to know which are the lightest wheels on the market today. Looking to get them size 7/15 with 195/50's..

Anybody got any suggestions? Think the Pro 2's weigh in at 6,4 kg each with 40 offset..

Cheers

I think the OZ superleggara's are lighter and I believe they have launched a new version of them which are lighter again.

However, I have the pro race 1.2's, but i think the pro race 2's look ace!

stm used to list a magnesium wheel at 3.4kgs that was £200 per corner. Its not on the website anymore but a call to STM Tel: 01283 544115 might find some answers.

Lightest for the money has to be OZ Superleggera's. Compomotive CXR's are also light weight but not as cheap as the OZ's.

If the cheque is blank though and you really don't care how much they cost, why not go for some magnesium wheels, or better still some Dymag carbon fibre rims with forged magnesium spokes. About £1,400 per wheel.

Image Split rims are LOVELY!

Hellfire - 26/12/07 at 12:41 PM

So what is the maximum blankness of the cheque?

Magnesium might not be strong enough for long roaduse.

RazMan - 26/12/07 at 01:12 PM

Another vote for Compomotive CXR here - very light and quite stylish IMO

fesycresy - 26/12/07 at 01:51 PM

Be carefull with magnesium alloy on the road.

Wasn't it Robert Dunlop who had a big claim against Dymag, because they said it wasn't for road use and it exploded at the IOM ?

Rials look superb in my opinion.

I personally wouldn't have any problems whatsoever with fitting magnesium wheels. They are easily able to cope with the weight and forces a seven would subject them to.

Give me the money though and it has to be carbon fibre wheels

loose 2 inches of metal and go for 13's,
(runs for cover LOL)

Hellfire - 26/12/07 at 02:42 PM

The rubber is heavier though For the R888's, the 13" tyre weighs 8.7kg compared to a 15" tyre weight of 6.5kg

I agree that the CXR's look awesome, too, but they weigh slightly more at 6,7 kg's with ET45(prob around 7 with ET40). The OZ Ultra Leggera's seem to be the lightest ones, but I tink they would look better or the new M3 than on a 7even..a bit too techno for my taste...Think I am still leaning towards the Pro 2's in Satin Black...

And Bigrich...I can only seem to find the CRX's in plain Silver. Did you have yours painted black, or are they available to buy in black?

RIALS on Mine...

Aico - 26/12/07 at 04:11 PM

Those look amazing. Howmuch to those rims cost?

perksy - 26/12/07 at 04:28 PM

Thanks

They're about £200 a Rim
They weigh 4.9kg a wheel (13x7)

You can have Silver centres instead of Black if you want...

Im sort of new to this whole kit car thing but wouldnt I be right to say that older fords are the same fitment as citreons? If so I know of some light 15 inch wheels, they are off citreon c5 and they look like a steel wheel but are made from aluminium, weigh in at 4.6 kg and the best part is the only cost about £23+ vat each brand new. And im sure you could pick them up out of a scrappies for even less, offset if ET 18 if i remember correctly

beppesignori - 26/12/07 at 05:02 PM

As far as I understand, I need PSD 4x108, and ET38 for 6,5x15 or ET44 for 7x15's.

Have just had a look at the caterham CSR wheels. They claim they only weigh 5kg for 15's. Will they fit an MK?

zilspeed - 26/12/07 at 07:58 PM

Now their nice rims Zil

Aico - 27/12/07 at 01:09 PM

Wow 200 per rim is not cheap! Damn.

simes43 - 27/12/07 at 04:50 PM

13x6 MB's are around 3.5 kilos. Choose your tyre correctly and a saving of 30kg of unsprung weight is yours.

Plus you can choose your offsets.

liam.mccaffrey - 28/12/07 at 02:42 PM

im gonna be using Mx5 alloy rims which i believe are in the region of 13-15 pounds per corner.
