Numpty ball joint question

I'm using cortina uprights with maxi ball joints. Just been fitting all the rubber bushes to the wishbones and fitted the transit track ends, however the upright on the maxi ball joint seems to be at an anlge. Can someone please tell me which way the upright should point.

It might be my eyes as non of you seem to know what I'm talking about!! I'll try and explain again. If I bolt the ball joint down then the upright threaded part doesn't look to be vertical it seems to be angled slightly. As I said above it may be my eyes as didn't check it with anything so may be a bit of an optical illusion where its tappered.

Are the two arms of the upper wishbone the same length ? If not, you may have them reversed front to back ?

i think i know what you mean - the threaded part of the ball joint which goes in to the hub is not straight up?

its ok - its designed to move so it might not be straight up ward - if you put the hub over it, you will find that the threaded part can move - its prob just very stiff as its new. Rescued attachment balljoint2.jpg

(If I understand you right)


Its a ball joint. The whole point is that the threaded part can articulate just like your shoulder or hip joint. If you knock the threaded part with a rubber mallet (put a nut on it first) and dont damage the threads you will find you can make it point it many directions away from vertical up.

They are quite stiff but they do move. Thats the whole point of them.

Well yes - but the angle of the upright is determined by the wishbone geometry ?

Or are you talking about the angle of the threaded part of the ball joint itself ? If that emerges concentric with the hole in the upright then You're ok. If the taper in the upright is correct, then nutting it down firmly should pull the ball joint straight.

Thanks guys, you have answered my question. Both my ball joints had the threaded part pointing at exactly the same angle and I couldn't move them by hand so guesed this was a set angle! I'll get them fitted tomorrow now!!
