thanks all especially Paul

Morning all

Well after my hissy fit last week about my steering and suspension it's done.

Many thanks to everyone for the encouragement but sincere thanks to Paul(Tiger B6) for giving up his Saturday afternoon and helping get everything sorted especially since he was dealing with someone completely clueless.

We had to adjust the camber by removing the top wishbone as the mushroom just wasn't budging no matter what we tried.

So what was wrong? well it looks like I should of set the camber up before the toe angle and Paul well spotted the column bush had worked loose so that was tightened.

Suspension bushes were attached to the rack to shorten it's travel and seem to work okay.

Only thing that we didn't sort was self centring. Paul thinks that because we were only pushing the car rather than driving it it might show when the car is going a little quicker but be prepared for a few posts if it doesn't.

Again my thanks it's much appreciated.

Nigel

good stuff!

did you find the reason for the steering wheel not centering to the same position after turning lock to lock?

jabbahutt - 15/9/08 at 07:37 AM

I can only guess that it was a combination of the following.

1. Me being convinced after staring at it too long I'd set it up properly and it wasn't

2. Could the loose column bearing of had anything to do with it.

3. could the camber being over 1.5 degrees different betwween the wheels affect it?

My money is on No.1 though

nice one and well done Paul

Glad to help out Nigel - enjoyed my Saturday afternoon helping out.

My betting it was a combination of things meaning it wasnt returning the the same position including the toe position and not having bounced the car to settle the suspension after making adjustments Apart from the column bearing having worked loose, everything was all fine - nothing else loose.

For someone supposedly so completely clueless, Nigel has very nearly completed one cracking looking build!! The fit and finish is top notch and i love Nigel's very original dashboard and flooring (an idea i'm gonna pinch!! ) - in fact the whole interior!! The thought he's put into this car is excellent and its going to have a lot of people crawling over it at the shows next year taking pics here and there with some of the inovation thats gone into it!!

Well done to you Nigel - now i dare you to post a pic of your dash for all to see.

Paul

Cheers for the kind comments on my interior. I'll gladly post pictures once I work out how as my past attempts have been feeble.

Obviously my I.T skills match up to my car mechanics

So if you need a return favour with help with a car interior give me a shout.

Cheers
Nigel
