castor Angle 6.5?
lamhotung - 18/7/02 at 03:21 PM

is 6.5 the best castor angle
(for escort upright)??

also does a good castor angle change depend on Kpi?
if so, any one know the rate kpi/caster??

could any one tell me a way to check Castor?

fit your upright to the wishbones fit two setscrews into the brake caliper mounting holes. make sure the stub axle is 90 degrees to the chassis ctr line. set a protractor asuming you have one to 5.5 degrees and place against the setscrews. move the top wishbone towards the rear of the chassis untill the bubble in the protractor is showing horizontal, and thats it.
ps the bottom wisbone brkts must be tacked to perform this method. the caliper holes lie in the same plane as the ball joint holes. so the setting will be correct.

As a matter of interest does this also apply to Cortina sub axles ?

YES THIS DOES APPLY TO CORTINA UPRIGHTS & STUBS, JUST MAKE SURE YOU MAINTAIN THE 8 INCHES BETWEEN THE WISHBONE CTRS AND THE CASTER ANGLE CAN BE SET BY THIS METHOD. WHEN YOU DO THIS YOU WILL SEE WHY I SAY THAT LA &LB SHOULD BE SET FURTHER BACK BY I INCH, TO ACCOMODATE THE FRONT TOP WISHBONE BRKT IN A BETTER MANNER. SEE DAVEF ON CHASSIS SECTION.
