grp seat weights?
johny p - 3/3/11 at 08:30 PM

i currently have some cobra leather bucket seats in my locost but thinking of swapping them for some grp fibreglass jobbies to save some weight, just wondering if its worth the change or does it not really make a difference speed wise?

Don't you believe it, I swopped my Cobras Roadsters for fibreglass seats and there's a huge difference in weight, wouldn't like to guess the difference but it's VERY noticeable when you pick them up. The fibreglass ones are very supportive too, especially in an accident

having ridden in both I personall find the comfort levels from fibreglass seats is greater than the Cobra ones, the weights will all depends on where you get them from I thing there will be a bit of weight saving

JK Composites?

http://www.jkcomposites.com/

Seem to get good reviews just check the dimensions.

I think they even do custom ones.

A pair of JKs weighs less than a single Cobra, IIRC.

Ive just changed my Westfield seats to some JK seats..

Really pleased with them and i find them more comfortable.. also when you wash the car the foam doesnt absorb all the water.. i dont actually think my westie seats ever properly dried out from when i 1st washed them!

As for weight, there is a serious saving to be had..

the westie Race seats which i presume would be lighter than the cobras? weighed in at 12kg per side.. so 24kg total..

the jk seats are only 3kg each so theres a really cheap 18kg saving..! JK do them delivered too for £280 with carbon tops.. bargain.

if you want a half way house the intatrim padded seats are quite light for what you get as they're a fully padded grp shell. The cobra frames are steel.
