GRP seat idea.
loggyboy - 17/4/12 at 07:48 AM

I was wondering if anyone makes a 2 part GRP seat? I was thinking this would be a great way to make differnt widths of seat base for both car and driver widths, and also give flexible angle adjustment.

Never seen one, surely strength would be an issue....especially if on track?

These were my thoughts, plenty of meat on them to keep them strong as for kit applications they can be mounted directly to the chassis.

Lack of rear support may not suit tintops, but most 1 peice GRPs suit them, this idea was more to suit the kitcars that come in so many different shapes and sizes.

It's a good idea, but you would have to make a chassis to mount the separate parts on, increasing weight.

Seat really should be 'stand alone', especially of you want some fore/aft movement.

Hi,

Take a look at my recent post: DARK Engineering bucket seats.

My mould is two piece, i had thought i could actually make a second bottom section which would bolt to my upper mould section to make different shaped seats....

I have seen that, however the 2 part of yours is more of a manufacturing feature than a design/function feature if Im looking at it right.
However If you can make a narrower lower section to suit a striker (aboout 350mm IIRC) then I would be interested in pricing.

What are the current dims of the lower section?

I will check on Sunday for you, away now in Scottland untill then.

From memory, it's 420mm, the same as in the book. If a striker is 350mm, I'm not sure many people would fit. Seats snug on me and I'm a skinny but! No disrespect.
