Which instrument panel is this?
markie76 - 20/9/12 at 09:13 AM

Hi Guys,

I'm trying to find out which instrument panel I have before taking the dashboard apart. The previous owner mentioned the donor vehicle was a 1979 2.0 Cortina (some bits off a Sierra) but when I've searched google, all pics look different to mine

I'm asuming its one complete panel under the dashboard cover but I could be wrong.

If anyone can help that would be great!

Slightly Off Topic but is it possible to use something like these donor instruments with a later engine.

I'm using a Zetec engine, MT75 Gearbox and MegaJolt ignition. To reduce cocts could I sensibly hook these up to something like the Capri panel? How would the tacho get it's feed?

John.

Tacho is proabably they easiest to sort, its just a pulsing signal that on older non ecu engined car would be fed from the -ve connector on the coil, but on ecu cars theres a signal direct from the ecu, the signals are largely the same. (accept if you get a set of dials from a 6cyl capri, which would expect a signal 1/6th as fast.

YES! - thanks guys, quick google search with Capri in it has returned lovely wooden dashboards with similar instrument layouts.

NOW, I just have to find out why the dash lights aren't illuminating or/and maybe hook them up

Its the 'handcuff friendly' wheel designed for fugitives on the run
First time I drove it it was interesting but now I have done some corners with one hand.

There are companies that make adaptors/converters for mechanical <> digital feeds & instruments but at a price.

Mechanical <> digital converters;

Dial conversion mechanical > digital;

Just wondering if anyone has a wiring diagram for this instrument panel (or any capri panel) they would be willing to scan and share with me? Or if anyone has a Capri Haynes manual a scan of the diagram would be great!

I need to rectify/install;

* the instrument panel backlights
* fuel guage doesn't seem to be working

Might be to early but theres a loom diagram here:

Might be worth a scan through some of these too
