Speedo Calibration

Is it possible to calibrate a speedo from another car?

Ie: if I were to fit a sierra cosworth dash panel etc

Thanks

yes assuming you are talking mechanical type.

these have a magnetic disc driven by a cable from the gearbox. as the magents spins, it creates a force on a disc of metal that want to trun against a spring; the speed indication pointer is attached to that.

by altering the strength of the magnet it is possible to set the amount of movement of the pointer.

unfortunately this is not something you can do easily at home, if at all. there are at leaset 2 companies that can re-magnetise the disc for you, costs about £ 60. they will also alter the gearing for the odometer.

the alternative is to use a small gearbox in the speedo cable, same sort of cost.

if the price has not put you off, I can dig out the details.

electonic ones work using pulses so this is more of a DIY change with some simple electronics.

Would it be possible to mark where the needle is at certain speeds then print a new speedo face on vinyl?
