Does anyone have pics in their archives of bought or home made half doors?

I was wondering about using some mesh to make the basic shape that is then covered on the outside with vinyl. The thinking being that the mesh could be used to get the basic shape easily and the elbow bulge but still being rigid ish. Would this work?

It's one of the reasons I mentioned it in your other post...

I am making them with elbow "inserts" and don't see it as being a big problem - I was then going to either trim them in vinyl or use them to lay up some fibreglass or if I could afford it, some CF ones.

I doubt I'll have them finished by Newark, but I could bring one along with me if it looks half decent if you are interested?

ps, Unlike surrey Dave's full doors, mine will only be half-doors.
you can buy them from fluke motorsport here but at £270 I'll give the diy approach a go first!

The fluke ones are great but far too rich for me. Id be happy to buy GRP unfinished shells that i could cover / finish myself except there isnt any available.

Pat - id probs opt for hard ones if i had the choice. Looking forward to a mooch around Newark now for inspiration.

Fluke do some nice carbon items, but are expensive.

However, they will do a GRP version of the same thing for a lot less dosh (about £65 a side I think)

Its the elbow bits that take some thinking about and then finding someone local with the skills to do a neat job. I guess the soft half doors can be strengthened up by adding some narrow pvc stips - something like what the double glazing lads use to trim around windows.

Also a very neat idea in the tonneau post on MK section ref soft bits for sevens that made a cockpit tonneau and added half door zips.

If you just make them from vinyl, youe elbows poke in to them and they stretch slightly, I've found no need for shaped bits. They really keep the water off your shoulders too when driving through puddles!
