seat bolts

Morning all

Before I go tightening up awkward to get at seat mounting bolts, do they have to be 8.8 HT bolts as per the harness mounts or will normal bolts do the trick?

Thanks
Nigel

Sure that is the minimum. The ones that come with them should be at least that.

it would be silly not to really

As far as i'm aware there is no minimum requirement. In the event of the crash its the belt thats going to stop you rather than the seats so i doubt there is much of a requirement for extra strong fittings to be used. If you have 8.8's though then may as well use them.

That's the point though, I haven't and wondered if I needed to buy any for SVA. Thinking about it for a few quid and piece of mind I might as well buy some tomorrow morning.

Cheers for the input fellas

I referred to page 82 of the new IVA draft and there is no reference to a particular grade being required to secure the seats

My understanding is that they need to be 8.8 minimum. If they are anything like mine and absolute b*stards to get at it ain't worth the risk of them being rejected as too low a grade.

Absolute b*stards for the SVA man to check the grade stamped on the head too, if you fit the nylocs under the car!!!

No required grade unless the seat is structural to the belt, ie. they're anchored to the seat, in which case they should be 8.8 or equivelent (and need spreader plates, etc).

Hi

Think about it logically....the seat is there to stop your a**e getting numb and to prevent you sliding around the floor pan whilst driving. In anything but a rear ender the restraining element is going to be the harness and hence these attachments are required to be of a certain spec. My advice is to use what you have available, use load spreading washers on both sides of the floor or better still load spreading beams above the floor and washers below.
