Hi,
I`m building a light reverse trike with Aprilia SR50 scooter engine on the back. The weight should be under 200kg. The engine has 3-4hp but may be
tuned later.
I looking for several parts to use in the project.
I need at least these:
-front uprights
-rack and pinion steering
-wheels and tyres for front: The rear tyre has dimensions 130/60R13
Most car parts are too large and heavy. Maybe some ATV has parts I need?
for something that light I would be looking at quad bike parts. there are loads to choose from on the ebay.
Regards Denis
I used the manual rack of a ford KA for my gravity racer - £15 from the scrappies (but I had to take it out).
Regards
Hugh
If you want it small,
light-ish
and cheap.
look at xinling world or ...
for parts from chinese buggy's. (pgo, gsmoon,...)
Or look at Kart parts
I'd try to avoid car parts if I were doing it again. I don't know much about quad bikes so can't advise. You have no weight so will
struggle for self centring. You need low weight, low friction parts from somewhere. I would consider making my own uprights, using motorcycle discs
and brakes.
I never found the ideal geometry for such a light vehicle. I added insane amounts of castor angle and still needed some toe out to get self centring.
I've got a fair amount of trail too. If you find the solution, let me know!
Give it more KPI,
that will help with self centering.
But that depends on the hub.
I have looked at Quadbikes too in the past
Mind you that parts are expensive, even second hand.
And most of the time the geometry is not very useable...
Because ATV's have long suspension travel.
I own a GSMoon 150cc (it ofcourse has now a 600cc bike engine and an sierra LSD)
and the hubs etc haven't let me down yet.
Although the 150cc has a huge 'strut like' upright, the 260cc version is more usable.
Brakes are tiny... but you can get EBC sintered pads.
Parts are cheap and plentifull.
A word of causion! these are Stub axle type hubs!
So that is a weaker design than euh... a hub with internal bearing(s).
wheels and tyres that come with it are also of the correctish scale,
10 or 8 inch rims
it has a short rack, so usable too
Oh, If I may ask... why a 50cc ?
just a project? Or something on a moped license ?
